Butter Buds develops a vegetarian bacon flavor

Food Busines News.net reports today that Butter Buds of Racine has developed a bacon flavor concentrate that can be used in vegetarian foods.

Butter Buds Bacon reportedly contains no animal products -- it's an enzyme modification of sunflower oil -- and can create a Kosher-certified ingredient. It is heat stable and has an 18-month shelf life, Thomas Buhler, business development director of Butter Buds,  said at the Institute of Food Technologists' annual meeting and food expo in Chicago.

Butter Buds-Bacon can be used in seasonings, snacks, sauces, soups, salad dressings, cheese and prepared foods, Buhler said.
